Welcome. We are HeadsUp Hammersmith and Fulham.
We are a network of people who have experience of mental health problems and have accessed health services in the borough. We use our experiences to advise on how things can to be improved.
Our Shared Aims and Values
We stand against the stigmatisation of people who experience mental distress by challenging and educating our community.
We do not accept an over-reliance on medication. We promote freedom of choice and campaign for better access to non–pharmaceutical interventions.
Our network is democratic and co-operative. We represent all people in our community who have experienced mental health problems. We do not serve to amplify the voice of a few or allow our agenda to be infiltrated for individual gain.
We use our creativity and life experience to tell our stories in ways that have meaning and impact.
We are equal partners in mapping our recovery; clinicians must play their part in minimising the power imbalance played out in the traditional patient/doctor relationship.
People before symptoms
We are of diverse backgrounds with many customs and beliefs. We want to be treated holistically, individually and without prejudice; culture must not be confused with symptoms of illness.
We do not wait for an invitation to consult but actively identify and highlight needs for change and gaps in services for people with mental health problems.
"Being involved with HeadsUp has given me a great sense of belonging"
